From May 29 to June 9, the head of the Pathology Department, Berik Barlybaevich Zhetpisbaev, specialist (biologist) Lyazzat Muratovna Kalieva and senior laboratory assistant histologist Lyazzat Yelyubaevna Mukalykova underwent an internship at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences in Kaunas, Lithuania, on the topic “Biobank of tumors of the central nervous system.”

Lithuanian Health Sciences University (LSMU) is the largest higher education institution in the field of biomedical sciences in Lithuania, successfully combining science, research and clinical practice. LSMU consists of two main academies: the Medical Academy and the Veterinary Academy.

During the training process, specialists took part in visiting patients with tumors of the brain and spinal cord, participated in MDGs, became familiar with the work of the pathology laboratory, the radiology and gamma knife department, the operating unit, the science department, the molecular oncology laboratory and others. We also took part in operations and became familiar with the principles of sampling and preparing biomaterial for molecular genetic research. As a result, specialists were trained in the technique of extracting DNA from blood, DNA from tumor tissue, and the technique of alliquoting blood and tumor tissue samples with subsequent cryopreservation.
