A group of researchers from the project “Development of a program of molecular cytogenetic research and creation of a biobank of tumors of the central nervous system” visited the Siberian-Kazakh neurosurgical symposium, taking place on June 1-2, 2023.

The main purpose of the trip was to participate and make presentations at a symposium on the results obtained within the framework of the Project.

The head of the Department of Hospital Management, Menlibaeva Karashash Kairatkyzy, made a presentation on the topic “Analysis of the survival of patients with glial tumors in Kazakhstan, a retrospective analysis of data from the National Center for Neurosurgery.” Questions were asked regarding the results, namely treatment methods and regional differences.

Head of the Department of Pediatric Neurosurgery Olenbay Gabit Iliyasuly made a report “Treatment of tumors of the posterior cranial fossa in children: Experience of the National Center of Neurosurgery in Astana.”

Head of the Department of Radiology and Radiosurgery Bayturlin Zhanibek Ganievich reported on the topic “MRI biomarkers of gliomas: application of methods for early detection and preoperative diagnosis of brain tumors.” In addition, Bayturlin Zh.G. moderated Session III.

Arman Serikovich Makarov, a neurosurgeon at the Department of Neurosurgery for Brain Pathology, gave a presentation on “5-ALA fluorescence: experience of use in 60 patients at the National Center for Neurosurgery.”

 Pediatric neurologist of the Department of Pediatric Neurosurgery Ibatova Syrdankyz-Gauhar Sultankhanovna reported on the topic “Clinic and course of drug-resistant forms of epilepsy in brain tumors in children.”

All participants received certificates confirming participation in the Symposium, signed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Chief Physician of the Federal Center for Neurosurgery of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Jamil Rzayev and Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chief Freelance Neurosurgeon of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, President of the Kazakh Association of Neurosurgeons, Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of science and technology Serik Kuandykovich Akshulakov. The certificates are attached to the report.

Project researchers took part in various plenary sessions on neurosurgery and neuro-oncology, where speakers from different countries shared their experience and achievements in clinical and scientific practice.

In addition, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between JSC National Center for Neurosurgery and the Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons (abbreviated name SibNeuro) on further cooperation in the field of education and science. The purpose of the memorandum is to strengthen cooperation between the Parties in clinical, scientific and educational projects.
